Our Mysterious Universe


Every day we are supplied with the most fantastic pictures from the Hubble Telescope and spaceprobes. Black holes, comets and the everlasting question of extraterrestrial life forms out there are quite fascinating to think about.

Comet Hale-Bopp on December 25th 1996

This comet passed through our solar system some 3000 years ago. During February - Mars 1997 this comet became  this century´s most spectacular event in the night sky.

Hale-Bopp Feb. 6th 1997

This picture of Hale - Bopp was taken February 6th 1997 from Col Druscie Observatory in Cortina, northern Italy. The comet´s magnitude is 1.7 on this occasion. In the background the star-cluster M 71 in the Sagritta-constellation can be seen.

This image from the Hubble-telescope of the comet Hale-Bopp, shows a spectacular spiral formed eruption. Comet Hale-Bopp has on several occasions erupted in this way. This particular eruption was registered by the Hubble Telescope within 24 hours after it took place, October 1995.

Halley´s comet

Comet Halley 1986

At the time comet Hale-Bopp was discovered, it sent out more than 1000 times more light than Halley´s comet on the same distance from Earth
